About Team 247
Beyond having fun, the leaders of Team 247 want students to come away from their robotic's experience with tangible benefits and skills they can use in their lives beyond high school. Team 247 aims to give students a experience that will prepare them for moving on to college and getting scholarships in the career paths they wish to take. This team teaches students about engineering marketing and computer programing mainly, but by being on this team you also learn about time management and many things you would need for building a business yourself.
The founders of Team 247 created a mission statement - which is kept up by the Marketing sub-team - to inspire students for years to come:
The objective of Da Bears Team 247 is to inspire students to achieve their full personal potential; to assist students in developing as problem solvers, critical thinkers, and involved citizens; and to help students become aware of career pathways and educational outcomes through an engineering based curriculum
The Berkley High School FIRST™ Robotics Team was established in 1999 as a participant in the FIRST™ Robotics Competition. Camau Pico, International manufacturer of automated welding systems and the university of Detroit Mercy were partnered with Berkley High School to form Team 247 “Da Bears”
Team 247 has had the luck of being involved with schools that have many people willing to help us succeed as a team. In 1999 a teacher at Berkley High School, Mr Yowchuang, helped found the team and became the coach for the first two years, in which we won the rookie team of the year award. In the 2001 season , Mr. Goldberg, a history teacher at Berkley High School, took over the team serving for seven years.
Da Bears have won many awards over past years, including the Palmetto Regional in 2006, the Detroit and Pittsburgh Regionals in 2007.
